At SAFECROWDS GROUP, we believe that spaces should be safe for all. Our business is founded on the principle of supporting our clients in achieving that goal, with a focus on enabling safe and secure environments, for our team, our clients, our partners, and the general public.

What is the Women’s Night-time Safety Charter

The Women’s Night-time Safety Charter (WNSC) is a commitment made by companies of all kinds to take action to help keep women safe. We have signed the London Night-time Safety Charter and abide by the same principles wherever we operate, which includes:

  • Nominating a champion who actively promotes women’s night-time safety.
  • Demonstrating to staff and customers that we take women’s safety at night seriously.
  • Communicating what women should do if they experience harassment, threatening, misogynist or violent behaviours when working, going out or travelling.
  • Encouraging reporting by victims and bystanders.
  • Training all staff to ensure that all women who report an incident or threat are believed and treated with respect and compassion.
  • Training all staff to ensure a response to all reports and record them.
  • Alerting clients to any areas for improvement – such as better lighting – which could help women feel and remain safer.

Our Women’s Night-time Safety Champions

All our teams have completed Welfare and Vulnerability Engagement (WAVE) training and are trained in situational awareness and conflict management, which means that they are equipped to spot signs of vulnerability, anticipate potential incidents, and respond early to defuse any situations that do occur. They are also trained to intervene to:

  • Prevent predatory or hostile behaviours from escalating.
  • Reassure individuals who may feel vulnerable or at risk.
  • Respond to incidents and report them.

To ensure that the issues surrounding women’s safety are understood and prioritised by everyone on our team, our Operations Director has been assigned the role of Women’s Night-time Safety Charter Champion for SAFECROWDS GROUP, with responsibility for:

  • Ensuring we communicate openly, proactively and effectively about women’s safety within our organisation, with clients and with members of the public.
  • Equipping our team to take action on women’s safety and remain vigilant about key issues, including spiking, use of misogynist language, and women travelling alone at night.
  • Co-ordinating training and awareness, including toolbox talks with our team.
  • Recording incident reports and taking appropriate action when incidents are reported.

In addition, we also designate a member of our team on as a Women’s Safety Champion at each of our client locations to ensure there is an allocated person with this remit wherever we are deploying our team.

Safety for all

As Women’s Night-time Safety Charter signatories, we take women’s safety very seriously, but we also recognise the need to prioritise safety for everyone. With all our operatives trained in situational awareness and behavioural detection specialists on our team, we also take action to support anyone who may be vulnerable or at risk, including:

  • People who appear to be in distress or have become separated from their group
  • People who are being verbally or physically abused
  • Neurodivergent and disabled people
  • Children and young adults
  • Elderly people
